What is a Locksmith Scam?

1. You are locked out of your car. You need a locksmith, so you Google “locksmith” on your phone. You tap the first locksmith website.

2. This listing you clicked is a Google ad which connects you with a call center in another state.

3. The website lists prices between $50 and $250. The call center operator tells you the “locksmith” will tell you the price when they arrive at your location. This is a simple job, so you think it will be a lower price.

4. When your locksmith shows up, they inform you the price will be $250 to unlock your car. You pay because you are frustrated and don’t want to wait for another locksmith.

5. You were a victim of a locksmith scam.
